The parish communities of Seim, Kflet, and Wara Sipik came alive with joy and thanksgiving as Fr. Martin We-en, parish priest of Seim, celebrated his Silver Jubilee—25 years of priestly ordination—with a deeply moving Thanksgiving Mass.

Presence at the celebration was His Excellency Bishop Siby Mathew Peedikayil, joined by priests from across the Diocese of Wewak, religious sisters, faithful parishioners, and friends from the wider region, including supporters and communities from Nuku and Lumi.

In his homily, Fr. Martin gave thanks to God for the immense grace of his priesthood and offered a heartfelt reflection on his vocation journey—from its humble beginnings, through years of pastoral ministry, to recent trials, including a serious illness that deepened his faith and trust in God’s presence.

“I have learned that the priesthood is not only about serving—it is about being carried by grace,” he shared. “In my weakness, God has been strong. In every joy and sorrow, I have felt His hand guiding me.”

Fr. Martin recounted the many roles and responsibilities he has held over the years and expressed gratitude for the support of fellow clergy, religious, friends, and especially the faithful of his parishes, who have walked with him in the mission of the Church.

At the conclusion of the Mass, Bishop Siby Mathew Peedikayil offered warm congratulations and acknowledged Fr. Martin’s dedication and tireless service. “Your priesthood has been a blessing not only to this region, but to the whole Diocese,” he said. The bishop also extended special thanks to Fr. Martin’s family, highlighting the role of his mother in nurturing his vocation.

Bishop Siby concluded with a call to all families: “Let us continue to pray and support vocations to the priesthood and religious life. It is in the heart of the family where seeds of vocation are planted.”

Following the liturgical celebration, the community joined in a joyful program of cultural performances and festive activities organized by parish groups—expressions of unity, joy, and gratitude for the gift of Fr. Martin’s priesthood.

As Fr. Martin We-en marks this 25-year milestone, his journey stands as an inspiration for future vocations—a witness that God continues to call and sustain those who respond with faith and courage.
