Nuku. June 2, 2025
In a heartfelt ceremony held at Nuku Parish, Bishop Siby Mathew presided over a Mass to conclude a month-long spiritual retreat for Teachers in the Aitape Diocese. Joining him were Father Mathew, who played significant roles in guiding the retreat participants; and Fr. Peter Minh OFM.

During the Mass, Bishop Biby Mathew expressed his profound gratitude to Father Mathew for dedicating his time and expertise to the Aitape Diocese. Despite his busy pastoral commitments at Post Mosbey, Father Mathew has consistently devoted one month each year for the past three years to support the diocese’s spiritual needs.
Throughout May, Father Mathew facilitated retreats across three deaneries: Aitape Deanery, Lumi Deanery, and Nuku Deanery. His efforts provided teachers with a unique opportunity for reflection and spiritual growth, fostering a deeper connection to their faith and vocation.
In response, Father Mathew thanked Bishop Siby Mathew for the invitation to serve the diocese. He shared his appreciation for the dedication and care exhibited by the teachers who participated in the retreats. Their commitment to their roles as educators and their openness to spiritual renewal left a lasting impression on him.
The retreat not only strengthened the Teachers’ spiritual lives but also reinforced the importance of their mission in shaping the future of the Church and the community. As the program concluded, both Bishop Siby Mathew and Father Mathew expressed hope for continued collaboration in nurturing the spiritual and educational development within the diocese.
