Aitape – From June 10 to June 14, the clergy of the Diocese of Aitape gathered for their annual retreat, a time of reflection, renewal, and deepening of their spiritual journey. The retreat was attended by Bishop Siby Mathew Peedikayil HGN, along with 16 priests and one deacon currently serving in the diocese.
The sessions were led by Fr. Vincent Agboyome-Akpa, SVD, who facilitated a structured program featuring two talks each day, the celebration of Holy Mass, private prayer, the recitation of the Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, Evening Prayer, and shared meals. These moments provided the clergy with the opportunity to rediscover their inner calling and strengthen their commitment to ministry.
On the first day, Fr. Vincent introduced the retreat theme: “Do You Love Me?”– a question that Jesus asked Peter, now extended as a profound reflection for each clergy member. Through scriptural references and practical insights, he encouraged participants to return to the motivations that first led them to their vocation, emphasizing the importance of passion, silence, disposition, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. “The pursuit is proof of passion,” he reminded them, urging a renewal of dedication and fervor in their mission.
The atmosphere of prayer and silence throughout the retreat allowed for deep introspection, giving clergy members a chance to realign their spiritual focus and recharge for their continued service to the diocese. With Fr. Vincent’s thoughtful guidance, participants explored their initial enthusiasm for ministry and reinforced their commitment to serving God and the community with renewed zeal.
This retreat serves as a significant milestone, equipping the clergy of Aitape with spiritual strength and clarity to carry forward their mission of spreading the Gospel with unwavering devotion.
