St. Anna Hill – Saturday, May 10, 2025.
On a serene morning atop St. Anna Hill, nearly 100 devoted mothers gathered at St. Solanus Chapel to celebrate the gift of motherhood and deepen their spiritual journey. The Cathedral Parish hosted this heartfelt event, reminding all present of the profound role mothers play—not only in their families but also in the life of the Church.
The Holy Mass was presided over by Fr. Hugh, OFM, alongside Deacon Michel Laka, OFM, who joined in leading this special liturgical celebration.
A Call to Spiritual Renewal
During his homily, Fr. Hugh delivered a powerful reflection on the spiritual lives of mothers. He acknowledged their tireless acts of charity and service to others but urged them to ask an important question: “When will you take time for yourselves and think about your own souls?”
He emphasized that true spiritual growth begins within, stating, “Give priority to your spiritual life first and then focus on others.” Many mothers, he noted, become so engrossed in caring for their families and communities that they often neglect their own relationship with God.
Drawing from Christ’s teachings, Fr. Hugh encouraged them to first purify their hearts before striving to serve others. He warned of life’s many spiritual struggles, noting, “Satan is very cunning and will tempt and trap you anytime.”
Strength Through Faith
Fr. Hugh urged all present to remain vigilant in their faith journey. He reminded them that trials and temptations may arise through family relationships or daily struggles, cautioning, “It might happen that your husbands or children, or anyone, might provoke you to sin. Beware that such things are likely to happen.”
However, he reinforced a message of hope, urging the mothers to overcome temptation with the grace of God. He concluded with a call to courage, reminding them that Christ Jesus has overcome the world and its temptations, and they too must strive to follow in His footsteps.
A Joyful Fellowship
Following the Mass, a warm atmosphere of joy and gratitude filled the chapel as mothers exchanged gifts, sharing in moments of laughter and fellowship. The gathering concluded with a delightful luncheon, further strengthening the bonds of faith and community among them.
A Legacy of Love & Spiritual Growth
This celebration served as a beautiful testament to the strength and devotion of mothers in the Church. Through faith, prayer, and self-reflection, they were reminded that their spiritual journey is just as vital as the love they share with their families.
May this experience inspire them to nurture their own souls, embracing the path of holiness and carrying forward the light of Christ in their homes and communities.
