The Diocese of Aitape marked Palm Sunday with vibrant and heartfelt celebrations, bringing together the faithful from across the region. The day began with the traditional blessing of palms, symbolizing Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Processions filled the streets, accompanied by hymns and prayers, creating a spirit of unity and devotion.
At the heart of the celebration was the Holy Mass, held at the cathedral, where the congregation reflected on the significance of Christ’s passion and sacrifice. The event showcased the deep faith and cultural richness of the community, blending traditional Melanesian elements with the solemnity of the occasion.
Faithful from parishes and mission stations across the diocese participated, including those from mountainous areas like Lumi’s Our Lady of Immaculate Conception and Nuku’s Holy Spirit Parish, as well as coastal and island communities such as Sissano’s Sacred Heart Parish and Yakamul’s St. Raphael Quasi. These diverse contributions highlighted the unity and devotion of the diocese, making Palm Sunday a truly memorable occasion.
